GBN has recently installed a new addition to its family of better nailing systems, this time aimed at a market not in wood pallets, but one in the clinch nailing of wooden cable reel flanges. There has not been a machine made in the western hemisphere of this type of nailer in more than 50 years. GBN with its expertise and engineering savvy was approached and has designed what is probably the widest nailer built in North America if not the world. The “Reel Horse” is just that. A real heavy duty clinching nailer specifically built to make nailing wood cable reel flanges in a tight strong way that only a real nailing machine can do. This one is simple to operate, change sizes, maintain and reliable. Power Clinching is used making sure the nails are down and holding properly for better reels at a lower cost. The machine is solid state controlled and hydraulically powered for maximum control and speed. The nail feed system is the same that is used on the great GBN Pallet Nailers including our “Tru Driver” Compensating Nail Chucks. The drive head rides on modern Linear Bearings, a GBN Exclusive that gives a very rigid and accurate nail driving platform with a minimum of maintenance. With nailed wooden cable reels growing again in popularity, why not nail them the way demanded by buyers, with a real nailing machine and real nails. The new GBN “Reel Horse” is the economical and profit making nailer for your needs.

Raj Nainani and an assisting technician are in South Africa installing a new GBN Block/Stringer Patriot.GBN has shown not only to be a valuable asset to pallet builders in the USA, but also around the world. In 2013, GBN Patriot Block/Stringer Systems have been delivered and installed in New Zealand, China and South Africa. These deliveries have supplemented domestic delivers of the Patriot, proving its ability to provide new Block Pallet Production along with New Stringer Pallet Production at a reasonable entry level as the market gets its feet wet in the USA providing Block Type Pallets. The GBN Patriot is an entry level Pallet Nailer and is being accepted as the right way to go as you learn and feel your way into Block Pallets. These are coming and those who are on the mark have chosen GBN to supply the machines. As business grows, the Patriot can be expanded to a two nailing head GBN System such as the Trailblazer or Excalibur or as one customer has done this year, left his current Patriot as is and adding another so that his product mix can be more flexible. GBN not only makes a Nailing System with the capacity of the Patriot, but a number of higher capacity systems like the Explorer, Trailblazer, Excalibur and Excalibur II.

West Salem Machinery (WSM) announces the development of a new screening design – the WSM Waterfall™ Disc Screen. This machine delivers high capacity “fines” screening, and improves screening efficiency due to increased material agitation. WSM’s Waterfall Disc Screen’s unique design utilizes multiple roll screening decks that agitate and tumble the mat of material being screened as it falls from level to level. This tumbling movement is similar to a waterfall in that the mat is blended as it falls and fine particles that were in the upper portion now have a chance to be screened on the lower deck. As a result, you achieve high volume screening capacity and effective product separation in a small package size. To make this possible, the WSM Waterfall™ Disc Screen utilizes a tight spacing between discs, allowing a variety of fiber materials (bark, chips, sawdust, shavings, hogged wood, compost) to be sorted by size (thickness and length). Fine particles pass between the discs, while over-size pieces are retained above. Recent applications include panel and pellet fiber preparation by screening green sawdust and shavings before drying; high capacity ag-residual screening for removal of dirt and fines; and high volume chip screening for fines removal in a pulp woodyard. These versatile screens are available in multiple sizes, with screen widths from 48” to 84” and lengths to 20 ft. The WSM Waterfall Disc Screen joins the West Salem family of fiber preparation machinery, including our full complement of screens and grinders to suit any application. Please contact a specialist at 503-364-2213, or visit our website where photos and descriptions of all our equipment are available.

Collinwood TN – September 20, 2013 - Froedge Machine has completed installation of a new transfer, trim saw, and green chain upgrade for Hassell & Hughes Lumber Company in their Collinwood, Tennessee mill. Designed and installed by Froedge, the system consists of a declined lugged transfer which moves lumber and cants from the second story mill to ground level, an unscrambler with even-end rolls, an overhead bypass conveyor for railroad ties, a dealer deck infeed to a Froedge-rebuilt HMC multi-saw trimmer, and declined outfeed to a 50 foot-long green chain. David Hollis, Plant Manager at Hassell & Hughes commented that they were not only pleased with the equipment from Froedge, but were happy with the installation process itself. “We have rarely experienced an installation crew that was so organized, hard-working and self-motivated. They cooperated very well with our own staff, and we were able to work very well together to complete the project quickly and efficiently.” The new system starts at a single output point from the two headrig sawmill. Boards and pallet cants from the mill go through the transfer/unscrambler and onto the trim saw, while railroad ties are directed over the unscrambler and directly across to the board dealer. All finished goods move out of the trim saw onto the green chain for sorting and stacking. “Hassell & Hughes has been a valued customer for many years”, said Tom Froedge, Vice President of Froedge Machine. “We understand how labor costs and downtime can negatively affect profitability, so it was important for us to provide a system that exactly met the project goals.” The updated mill output was designed to give Hassell & Hughes the option to increase production and easily add more automation in the future if required. Froedge Machine & Supply has been in business for over 50 years, and specializes in automated material handling machinery, grade mark readers, and software for the lumber and woodworking industries. The company also performs specialty industrial repairs, custom CNC machining and fabrication, and operates a full service industrial parts and supply house.
